The ranking of the world’s most visited countries changes every year based on many factors such as political situation, natural disasters, and pandemics. And the last few years are a great example of how the number of visitors can fluctuate year on year. The travel industry has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many countries implementing travel restrictions and quarantines to slow the spread of the virus. As a result, international travel has dropped significantly, leading to a decline in revenue for the travel industry.According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international tourist arrivals decreased by 84% in 2020, resulting in a loss of $1.3 trillion in export revenues for the travel and tourism sector. This represents a decline of about 65% in international tourist arrivals and revenues compared to 2019.However, the travel industry experience a fast recovery as countries began to open up and vaccination campaigns began to rolled out. According to a report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the global travel and tourism sector was recovered by the end of 2021, with a growth of 4% in international tourist arrivals and a 6% increase in total export revenues.
