1. The Taj Mahal

The mausoleum took over a decade to build as it is made from white marble and many gemstones, including jade, diamonds, and mother of pearl. Due to its architectural beauty and symbolism, the Taj Mahal is a must-see place when visiting India.  

2. The Red Fort 

The second major tourist attraction of India is the Red Fort in New Delhi which was built by Shah Jahan during the 17th century. The fort was the place of residence of Mughal emperors, and it became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. The design of the fort is based on Islamic prototypes and was named after its red sandstone walls. 

One of the most famous features of the Red Fort is the Hall of Public Audience which has approximately 60 red sandstone pillars. The Red Fort is seen as a symbol of power and change in Indian history. Since its development in the mid-1600s, the Red Fort has become the inspiration for many other buildings in Agra, Delhi, and Rajasthan. 

A major attraction for tourists visiting the Red Fort is Chatta Chowk. This is a large shopping area that sells different crafts and souvenirs.

The Amer Fort of Rajasthan is one of India’s many palaces. It is considered an architectural masterpiece due to its underground tunnels, stairways, and cobblestone pathways. This fort overlooked Maota Lake and was built by Raja Man Singh. 

The Amer Fort has six main gates, each for a different purpose. For example, the first gate was known as the Ganesh gate and included the private residence for Maharajas. This fort was home to many rulers of India. As a result, it has great importance and relevance to Indian history, making it a key tourist destination for those aiming to gain a glimpse into the fascinating intricacies of Indian culture.

Sri Harmandir Sahib is a magnificent temple located in Amritsar. It was named the Golden Temple due to its golden dome. The Golden Temple is sacred to the Sikh religion and is considered a key pilgrimage site.
