With Halloween around the corner, you have to decide which scary treats you are going to offer. If you are planning on buying some candy, then you should check our article about 4 Spooky Halloween Treats You Can Find In The US. But if you prefer to prepare some homemade food, here are some ideas for you to get inspiration from. With these scary treats, nobody will want to trick you!

TAKEAWAY: Did you know that the tradition of trick-or-treating in the United States originated only in the 1930’s and 40’s? And at that time candy wasn’t the typical treat. People used to give coins, toys, fruits or nuts to the scary ghosts and witches that appeared on their doorstep. However, during mid-1900, candy companies started promoting their sweet treats, and by 1970 these products were considered almost the only acceptable treats for Halloween.

Healthy

And finally, for those who want to celebrate Halloween but don’t want to eat a lot of sugar or trash food, we’ve also got some healthier ideas. Fruits and vegetables serve as perfect base ingredients for scary treats thanks to their various vibrant colors. You only have to grab a sharp knife and carve them to design the most creative monsters.

Boo! I absolutely love Halloween. When I was growing up we always had huge Halloween parties with over the top decorations, spooky themed food and lots of games. I’m keen to keep up the tradition for my own kids!⠀ I’ve started working on spooky party food ideas so I’ve brought you the recipe for these super-easy raspberry mummy pies. ⠀ I used frozen raspberries from Iceland for the filling and store-bought puff pastry – so they’re really easy to make. My kids loved helping me to create the mummy shapes and then they happily tucked into them. They’re easily vegan and gluten-free. ⠀ (ad)⠀ #veggiedesserts #halloween #poweroffrozen @IcelandFoods ⠀ .⠀ #foodbloguk #ukfoodblogger #foodblogfeed #feedfeed #thekitchn #f52grams #fbcuk16 #huffposttaste #yahoofood #epicurious #saveurmag #fdbloggers #buzzfeast #marthafood #foodgawker #beautifulcuisines #veggiedesserts #halloweenparty #halloweenfood #halloween2017 #puffpastry #handpies #raspberrypie #edibleeyes #govegan #vegansofig

Halloween is coming! Here’s the recipe for my Turkey Stuffed “Pumpkin” Peppers! 🎃😊⬇️ – WHAT YOU NEED: (for about 6 peppers) 🎃 6 large bell peppers, 2 lbs ground turkey, 5 cloves garlic (minced), 1/2 sweet onion (minced), 2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley, 2 tsp cumin powder, 3 tsp kosher salt (divided), 1 1/2 cup tomato sauce, 3 cups cooked brown rice, 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella/ or cheddar cheese, 2 tbsp finely snipped chives and olive oil – HOW YOU MAKE THEM: 🎃 Heat oven to 400 degrees. 🎃 Cut tops off of your peppers, remove all seeds, hollow and rinse out. 🎃 Next,”carve” pumpkin faces (eyes, mouths, etc.) into your peppers. 🎃 Place hollowed peppers in a microwave safe dish and add about 1/2 cup of water to the dish. Microwave for about 5 minutes or until peppers are just slightly softened. Set aside. 🎃 Pour a little olive oil into a large non-stick skillet and heat on medium heat. 🎃 Add onion, garlic and parsley to the pan and saute for about 3 minutes. 🎃 Add ground turkey, 2 tsp salt and cumin and cook meat for 4 to 5 minutes until meat is completely cooked through. 🎃 Next, add 1 and 1/2 cups of tomato sauce. Mix well and simmer on low for about 5 more minutes. 🎃 Combine cooked rice and meat together until well mixed. 🎃 Spoon turkey mixture into each pepper and place in a baking dish. Sprinkle cheese over stuffed peppers and top with chives. 🎃 Bake for approximately 20-25 minutes and then serve immediately. – #dinner #toddlerdinner #glutenfreerecipes #halloween #halloweenfun #fun #halloweenideas #halloweenrecipes #toddlers #toddlermeals #toddlermealideas #kidfood #funfood #foodisfun #recipe #halloweenfood #healthy #healthykids #creativefood #halloweeniscoming #makingfoodfun #funfoodforkids #buzzfeed #foodgawker #eatrealfood #glutenfree #kidfriendly #babblemakes #halloweenfunfoodforkids

Don’t worry about it being perfect, as you are filling this gap with almond butter anyway so if you cut too deep, you can always cover it up and you won’t even be able to notice. Coat the inside of the gap where you just cut with a filling of almond or hazelnut butter. Place sunflower seeds on the top of where the “mouth” is to resemble the teeth. Place 1 sliced strawberry inside the mouth to resemble the tongue. “Glue” each eye above the mouth, using a dab of almond butter to make it stick in place. Serve your monsters and enjoy!
