When looking at the most popular cuisines from around the world, it certainly isn’t clear what option is the Earth’s favorite. With food from various territories spreading globally, we’re more diverse in the way we eat and generally have more options than ever before, particularly in major cities, such as New York, London, Sydney, and Madrid. Japanese food and, more specifically, sushi is certainly up there, though.

Known for being light and healthy, Japanese cuisine can be sampled in a number of countries outside of Japan. Of course, eating it in the country it originates from is hard to beat, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some extremely viable options in destinations outside of Japan.

After all, it’s an element of Japanese grub that millions of people regard as their ideal choice. Sushi has been featured on our television screens for years in movies like The Breakfast Club and Sex in the City 2, while it’s regularly the topic of discussion in cookery shows and cooking competitions, and there is even a sushi-themed Hey Sushi game that will leave you drooling over the screen. Put simply, sushi is a firm favorite in many foreign territories around the world.

With people enjoying this delightfully light Japanese treat everywhere, let’s take a look at some of the best sushi places outside of Japan.

New York has a strong selection of sushi spots

Thanks to the multicultural aspect of New York City, the food on offer throughout the city is incredibly diverse. Japanese food is one of the many options people typically enjoy, with places like Bar Masa and Sushi Yasuda standing out when it comes to all things sushi related. Also serving up other Japanese delights, both establishments offer sushi of the highest standard that is made by talented chefs who have been honing their craft for years. While both options aren’t cheap, they’re certainly worth it if you’re ever after a Japanese treat in the Big Apple.

London’s Kiku and Dinings SW 3 are fantastic options

Similar in many respects to the aforementioned New York, London is a hub of different cultures that have come together to create a vibrant and diverse city that is certainly reflected in the city’s food offerings. Don’t let the stereotype regarding British food put you off, because London is firmly bucking the trend, much like many cities throughout the UK. In terms of sushi, Chelsea’s Dinings SW 3 is one of the top places in town thanks to Chef Sugisaki’s beautiful selection of favorites that have been spruced up even further. Another option is Kiku, a welcoming restaurant that has been satisfying the tastebuds of Londoners for decades thanks to a stunning range of sushi delights.

Sushi Okuda is easily one of Paris’ best

If you ever find yourself wandering around the streets of Paris, naturally, you’ll probably opt for some French goodness from a local store. Even though French food is one of the best around, be sure to save room for some of the city’s fantastic Japanese spots. Sushi Okuda is probably the standout establishment, although Sushi B is another popular sushi restaurant. In terms of offering a sophisticated dining experience that will not only make you feel special but also wow your tastebuds, both places absolutely nail it.

Other options include Brussels (Kamo), Berlin (Sasaya) Madrid (99 Sushi Bar), Moscow (Tokyo Sushi), Singapore (Hashida Sushi), Sydney (Sashimi Shinsengumi), Rio De Janeiro (Sushi Leblon), Melbourne (Minamishama), Hong Kong (Sushi Saito), Zurich (Makoto), and Vienna (Shiki).
