6 Mistakes To Avoid For Seniors Traveling During The Pandemic

Last Updated on March 13, 2023

If you’re planning your next trip and think it will be the same as the ones in 2019, think again. The pandemic isn’t going away soon. While traveling can be a concern, it is completely possible with the right precautions. We have discussed six mistakes to avoid for seniors traveling during the pandemic. Have a look.

1. Not Checking With The Doctor

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way people travel. If you’re a senior looking to travel, you must take extra precautions. Assuming you’re taking a flight, all the flight companies ask for a Covid-negative report that shouldn’t be older than 72 hours.

Make sure you’re Covid negative and do not have any other critical health issues that can become a problem in your travel. Also, consider double-checking your bag to ensure you’ve taken all your medications.

2. Not Paying Attention To Your Food

Traveling to a different city gives you extra cravings for your favorite fries or that delicious pizza at the Airport. And why not? You’re traveling, aren’t you supposed to be having fun?

Well, that’s true. However, in these tough times, it’s important to have your immunity high. That’s the only way to keep the Covid virus at bay. That involves staying hydrated and avoiding foods that can lower your immunity.

So, instead of coke or pizza, consider having leafy veggies and foods rich in Vitamin C. This will ensure you’re on top of your health, and you will be able to make the most out of your trip!

3. Avoiding Travel Insurance

Traveling can be a fun and interesting experience. It may also bring many new and unknown challenges. While traveling, many bad things can happen to you like theft, getting hurt, being robbed, becoming ill, or experiencing an accident. A good travel insurance plan will cover all your medical expenses, trip cancelation, and other such emergencies.

We’d strongly advise having travel insurance before traveling. Better to be prepared than sorry.

4. Not Adhering To Social Distancing Norms

Let’s be honest – adhering to various social distancing norms has been difficult for everyone. It’s easy to miss a precaution and end up getting infected. Yes, it is that serious!

As a senior, you must make sure to adhere to the necessary Covid guidelines by the officials. Some of the most important ones are:

  • Wearing the mask at all times while out in public.
  • Two-meter distance with people
  • Washing hands frequently and sanitizing them often

Also, it would make sense to carry extra masks and sanitizers. You can also invest in a Covid Face Sheild for added protection.

Note: These Covid guidelines are meant to be followed everywhere – at the Airport, on the road, and in your hotel.

5. Avoid Vaccination When Available

The sad truth of the current time is that many seniors are unwilling to get vaccinated. It is important to trust your Government and scientists and get vaccinated to keep the virus at bay or, at the very least, curb the spread.

Also, if you have just got vaccinated, it’s doesn’t mean you can throw away that mask or quit following the Covid guidelines. Remember, your family members look up to you. It’s important to set a good example for getting vaccinated and following the Covid guidelines.

Again, planning a trip after getting vaccinated will make your immune system stronger!

6. Not Choosing The Right Hotel or Apartment

Your hotel or the apartment should be clean, hygienic, and compliant with the Covid safety protocols. It’s advisable to be alert and see if people are following social distancing norms when you check-in. If you sense things are not up to the mark, consider moving out.

Moreover, the hotel should be free from bed bugs & should also have well-lit parking areas, a fire escape plan, and an automatic sprinkler system. Staying at these hotels will not only help you relax but will also ensure your safety when traveling.
