Regardless if you’re practicing how to cook beef short ribs on gas grill or how to cook bbq beef ribs on gas grill, the temperature is the most crucial aspect. You can have the best tasting glaze, but with poor temp control, it wouldn’t taste just as good. So for steaks, you should keep the following temp levels in mind. It applies well when cooking on portable natural gas grills and other types of grill:
Rare – 125F
Medium Rare – 135F
Medium Well – 150F
Well-done – 160F
Mind your seasonings
Another important consideration is the seasonings you’re using to flavor the red meat. Before you even cook, salting and brining your steak is a must-do. Doing this also draws some of the moisture from the meat, which will give you a satisfying sear. For those who don’t have the time to do some prep work, there are store-bought pre-mixed steak seasonings.
However, if you really want to unleash the best flavor in your steak, you may want to use one of the Meat Rubs available online or blend the flavor on your own. Don’t skimp on herbs and spices. Also, never cut the meat to check the doneness no matter how tempted you are. It will expose the insides, which will make the doneness a little off than what you’re planning for.
Using the right grill
When it comes to grilling red meat, cast iron is the best bet. Regardless if you’re using a portable propane grill or gas grills under $500, a cast iron grate is the key for the most sumptuous steaks and ribs.
It’s a foolproof choice, especially if you’re worried about uneven cooking and the meat sticking too much on the grates.

Ingredients:
*New York strip steaks or ½-inch thick rib-eye steak
*Ground pepper
*Kosher salt
*2 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil
Optional:
*Melted butter
*Parsley
*Steak rub (store-bought or your own blend)
Procedure:
Step 1. Preheat your grill to a high setting and treat the steaks with the coconut oil. Also, sprinkle pepper and salt on both sides lavishly. If you’re not into the basic taste, you can use your choice of steak rub to spice things up. However, apply only the amount that sticks to the meat. A very thick rub will burn and make your steak taste awful.
Step 2. Set the steaks on the grill and let it sit until slightly charred with a golden brown color. Do this for 4 minutes.
Step 3. Turn the steaks and let it grill for 3 minutes for Medium Rare; 7 minutes for Medium Well; and 10 minutes for Well Done. For Rare steaks, less than 3 minutes is ideal.
Step 4. After you achieve the right internal temperature for your choice of doneness, remove the steaks from the grill. Let it sit for 5 minutes for the juices to settle before chopping it into pieces.
Step 5. Sprinkle your steak with your choice of herbs. You can do so a minute before you remove it from the grill. You can also use butter instead.
