Expedition Ecuador takes you on an unforgettable adventure, sharing incredible experiences from encountering mesmerizing wildlife to immersing in the vibrant culture of the Sani Isla community.

Get ready to be amazed by the wonders of the Amazon as you join us on this extraordinary journey.

The expedition begins at Quito’s airport, where a short 35-minute flight transports us to Francisco de Orellana Airport, known as “El Coca,” in the captivating Amazon region. The flight offers breathtaking views of the Andean volcanoes, setting the stage for the adventure that lies ahead.

Upon arrival, we are greeted by our expert guide, Javier, a native of the Sani community, whose knowledge promises an extraordinary experience. From the Napo River pier, we embark on a motorized canoe ride that takes us deeper into the rainforest.

Along the way, we are treated to a magical encounter with howling monkeys peacefully resting on tree branches along the riverbank. With Javier’s keen eyes, we spot petite black tamarin monkeys playfully frolicking in the treetops.

Arriving at Sani Lodge, we are warmly welcomed by the lodge staff and introduced to the serene lagoon that will be our home for the coming days. The adventure kicks off with a canoe ride through the intricate creeks surrounding the lodge, where we spot a variety of wildlife wonders, including howling monkeys, a river otter, the famous hoatzin bird, and numerous Amazonian avifauna.

The expedition continues with a hike through the rainforest, leading us to the Observation Tower, built ingeniously on a big Ceibo tree. From the tower’s pinnacle, we enjoy a mesmerizing view of the rainforest canopy and spot fascinating avian creatures, including the iconic toucan.

As night falls, we embark on a thrilling night walk, where we encounter various captivating creatures, including bats, spiders, frogs, and even a caiman named Lucy, a permanent guest at the lodge.

The second day brings us to a parrot clay lick along the Napo River, where we witness birds and mammals feeding on the clay for its beneficial minerals. Later, we visit the Sani Isla community, where we experience a culinary delight of traditional dishes, witness their turtle reinsertion program, and even have the chance to adopt and release a young turtle into the Napo River.

As the journey nears its end, we bid farewell to the Amazonian paradise with cherished memories of the extraordinary expedition. From the majestic Antisana to the resplendent orange sunrise, the return flight to Quito leaves us in awe of the natural wonders we encountered.

The experience at Sani Lodge is truly unparalleled, offering a unique and immersive adventure in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on this remarkable journey yourself and explore the wonders of the Ecuadorian Amazon with Expedition Ecuador’s Sani Lodge tour.
