3 Options to Get a Vietnam Visa for US Citizens

Last Updated on March 1, 2023

Are you planning to visit Vietnam? As you may know, there are tones of amazing reasons to visit Vietnam. From diving and exploring caves to trying the most delicious regional dishes, the Asian country has so much to offer. But before you go, you should make sure you apply for a Vietnam visa with enough time ahead, or you will be in trouble. If you are a US passport holder, you will need a Vietnam visa, either if you want to enter Vietnam for tourism or business purposes. Depending on your personal situation, there are 3 ways to get a Vietnam visa for US citizens:

1. Get a Vietnam visa at the Vietnam Embassy

First of all, you should know that applying for a visa at the embassy may take from 4 to 5 working days. So, take that into account when planning your trip and reach to the Vietnam Embassy in the US for detailed instructions. You can find all the contact details on the website of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States. You can also look for the nearest Vietnam Embassy in your location.

2. Get a Vietnam visa on Arrival

If you can’t find a Vietnam Embassy nearby or you don’t have the time, getting a Vietnam visa on Arrival may be the most suitable option for you. This alternative allows US passport holders to apply for the visa online and collect it on arrival. There is only one condition if you wish to take advantage of this option: you will have to travel to Vietnam by air. So be careful if you are planning to visit Thailand and then drive to Vietnam for instance, as you won’t be eligible for this type of visa and your entry to the country will be refused. For further information, check out how Vietnam visa on arrival works.

3. Obtain a Vietnam E-Visa

Since February 2017, Vietnam E-Visa is another possibility for those who would like to visit Vietnam with a tourism purpose for a maximum of 30 days. However, this is for single entry only, which means that if you leave the country, you won’t be able to get back with such visa even if it hasn’t expired yet. Therefore, be very careful if you are traveling around South-East Asia and you want to get back to Vietnam. There are only 46 nationalities eligible for E-Visa so far, so please check it out carefully before applying.

Now that you know the three ways for a US citizen to get a valid visa to visit Vietnam, you can start planning this life-changing trip. Should you need more information, you can get in touch with the Vietnam Visa experts at vietnam-visa.com.
